Extra snacks.
Extra clothes.
Extra toiletries.
Backup options for things I probably wouldn’t even use.
And somehow, even with all of it, travel still didn’t feel easier.
Over time, I realized I wasn’t really packing for reality.
I was packing for every “what if” I could think of.
What if I got hungry?
What if the airport food was terrible?
What if I suddenly wanted something I never even eat at home?
So I packed more.
Just in case.
But the more I traveled, the more I noticed the same pattern:
I almost always reached for the same few things.
The same comfortable outfit.
The same small snacks.
The same simple travel essentials.
Everything else usually came home untouched.
That realization changed the way I pack now.
Instead of trying to prepare for every possible situation, I focus on what consistently makes travel feel easier.
Less decision fatigue.
Less overthinking.
Less digging through things I packed out of obligation.
I’ve realized I enjoy travel much more when everything feels simple and manageable.
Especially on long travel days, there’s something calming about knowing exactly what’s in your bag and actually using everything you brought.
Now, whether it’s snacks, toiletries, or travel essentials, I try to pack for the version of travel that actually happens—not the version I imagine in my head before the trip.
And honestly?
That shift made travel feel lighter almost immediately.
That mindset is exactly what led me to simplify the snacks I bring on flights down to the few things I actually finish every trip.
