50 States Before 50: A Travel Goal Close to My Heart

One of my biggest travel goals is to visit all 50 states before I turn 50. It’s a goal that’s been quietly growing alongside my love for travel—less about checking boxes and more about experiencing the places that leave a lasting impression. So far, I’ve been lucky enough to explore 38 states, and each trip has shaped how I travel and what I value most along the way.

Out of all those places, Montana will always be my favorite and the one I truly call home. There’s something about the wide-open spaces, quiet roads, and endless skies that never fails to reset me. No matter how far I travel, Montana is the place I measure everywhere else against—it’s where my love for mountains, fresh air, and unhurried travel really began.

It’s no surprise that I’m most drawn to destinations with mountains and unforgettable views. Places that make you slow down, take a deep breath, and just soak it all in. Wyoming and Colorado sit right at the top of my list for that reason. From scenic drives to sweeping valleys and towering peaks, these are the kinds of trips where you spend full days exploring—and where traveling comfortably truly matters. Having outfits that move with you and shoes you can walk miles in makes all the difference when you don’t want to rush back indoors.

There are still places I dream about visiting, and Maine has been at the top of that list for years. The rugged coastline, charming towns, and cooler coastal air feel like exactly the kind of destination I’d fall in love with. I’m also missing most of the East Coast, which makes this goal feel exciting rather than overwhelming. There’s so much still waiting to be discovered, and I love knowing those experiences are still ahead.

As I work toward visiting all 50 states, I’ve learned that how I travel matters just as much as where I go. Traveling with comfort and style allows me to enjoy longer days, spontaneous detours, and moments that turn into memories. With 12 states left to explore, I’m in no rush—just excited to keep traveling in a way that feels intentional, comfortable, and true to me.
