Some of our favorite travel moments happen when we slow down just enough to say yes to a detour. On our way to Nevada for a graduation, we decided to make a stop in Laramie, Wyoming — and it ended up being one of the highlights of the trip.

We spent the day 4-wheeling through Wyoming, and the views were absolutely incredible. Wide-open spaces, rolling terrain, and that quiet you only get when you’re far from busy roads. It felt like one of those places where you can finally take a deep breath and just take it all in.
As we drove along the trails, a deer ran right across the road in front of us, stopping us in our tracks for a moment. It was one of those simple, unexpected moments that reminds you why road trips — and these little side adventures — are so special.
The scenery around Laramie was stunning in every direction. Mountains in the distance, open skies overhead, and trails that made the whole experience feel adventurous without being rushed. It was the perfect way to break up a long drive and stretch our legs before continuing on.
This stop reinforced something I love about traveling: you don’t always need a packed itinerary. Sometimes a spontaneous stop, a dusty trail, and a beautiful view are all it takes to create a memory that sticks with you long after the trip is over.
If you’re driving through Wyoming and have the chance to get off the main road for a bit, take it. You never know what moments — or wildlife — might be waiting around the next bend.
